  • I have worked for 2 years on a permaculture garden farm on acreage, as a Horticulturalist and property hand. I have been responsible for feeding horses and mucking out their stables, stacking hay and keeping the horse yard clean and tidy. I have also been in charge of feeding sheep, chickens, guinea fowl, and ducks, as well as looking after and moving tethered goats around the property. I am experienced in lawn-mowing, brush-cutting, whipper snipping, and general garden maintenance and have extensive experience tree planting & mulching as well as general plant care. Having said all that, my preference would be for 'light duties' when it comes to property maintenance activities during a house-sit stay. I've worked in vegie gardens, orchards, and olive groves, as well as in hothouses, shade houses, and open paddocks. I have good basic handy-person skills, and am used to using basic power tools and hand tools for a wide variety of small-scale projects. I have a fair bit of good old common sense, and am used to working outdoors in all Tasmanian weather, and am practical and competant and happy to get my hands dirty.

The Girl in the Van

59, Self-employed Creative

Hello, thanks for reading my Profile. I’m Leah, a 59-year-old female creative who is setting up an online business, and I work from 'home'. I have been renting and house-sitting in Tasmania for the last 5 years, as well as touring around in my van exploring all that Tassie has to offer. I am currently doing some house-sits in Victoria to catch up with family and friends and am looking for house sit opportunities on the Mornington Peninsula: preferably longer term, but all durations considered.

As well as being an adventurer, I’m an outdoor nature enthusiast with a horticultural background, and have recent experience working on a farm (for 2 years) and looking after horses, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and ducks. I am great at looking after vegie gardens, ornamental gardens, and property, and am extremely neat & tidy and very house-proud. I have my own transport which is a converted Ford Transit van that I use for weekend getaways and adventures.

I am keen to find a base on the Mornington Peninsula and would love to have the opportunity to experience the area that you live in and help you out by looking after your home/pets/garden while you are away. If you are interested in having me house-sit for you, please get in touch.

Warm regards,

Leah Syme.

I would give Leah more stars if i could My house was sparkling when I came home. She'd weeded the garden! My fur babies were happy to see me, but weren't 'OMG thank god your home'. They'd obviously been well cared for. If you're lucky enough to have Leah apply to house sit, grab her, you'll be glad you did

SANDRA (Ringarooma TAS, Sep 2024 - 1 week 4 nights)
We would highly recommend Leah. It was lovely to return after 3 months to our home clean and neat as we had left it. Leahs communication with us was great. The garden and lawns were as neat as possible with the terrible weather Tassie had during Leahs stay. We would definetley use her again. Thankyou Leah 😊

HELEN AND KIM (Shearwater TAS, Jun 2024 - 3 months 1 week)
Leah was prompt in replying to my messages and it was easy to arrange a house sit period that worked for both of us. Everything was tidy and clean when I returned home. I can recommend Leah for any house sitting that you need.

ROBERT (New Norfolk TAS, Apr 2024 - 3 weeks)
I meet Leah prior to confirming the house sit. We hit it off straight away and I felt super comfortable having her in my home looking after my dog, chickens and gardens for 3 weeks. Leah was great at communicating and kept me in the loop with the happenings of the place whilst we were away. The house was immaculate upon returning. We would happily welcome Leah back for future house sits.
