64, Retired Teacher
68, Engineer
We are three
We are very experienced house sitters in NZ and in the UK. We are usually on this site as house-owners here in Australia - we have 2 dogs, an elderly Spoodle and a young Cavoodle, 2 x 4 year old cats, budgies, chooks, quail and native bees. We live out of our organic garden.
At this stage of our lives we are only able to house-sit in the Qld School Holidays.
Jan - retired secondary school Head of Department, loves cooking, quilting, knitting and crochet. Treasurer, Gold Coast Quilters Guild, inc.
Dave - Ex Major in the Australian Army, now Engineer Project Manager - the garden including the birds and the bees is his passion. Retiring soon.
Haken - 13, grandson, speaks English and Technobabble. Autistic (ASD1) is skilled in Kung Fu, Piano, Cello, Chess, Hip Hop and Hockey - ask Haken and he will tell you he is a Gamer. Attends Kings Christian College - one of only three students in Junior Secondary to receive a Service Award in 2022
It was 2016 when our life pathway made a significant left turn, with Court ordered parental responsibility granted for Haken - then 7. Our first house-sit with him was two weeks later in Invercargill in NZ using the sister site Kiwi house sitters.
In 2018 we spent 7 1/2 months in the UK and Europe with him - either house-sitting via the sister site - house-sitters UK or staying with friends. Fabulous education. Haken's memories of this trip anchor on the animals we cared for as house sitters - Hamish, the Pomeranian from Yorkshire, Tyr the Great Dane from Cockermouth, Hattie the elderly cat in East Grinstead, Mags the Border Collie in Kent and so on. We remain friends with several of the owners.
We love house-sitting - we love new places, we love meeting new pets and caring for them and we love getting to know a place as more than just a tourist.
Thank you
Jan, Dave and Haken
