30, Writer
Hello! I’m Philippa. I recently returned to Australia and thought house-sitting would be the perfect thing to do while I figure out where to base myself! I’m a freelance writer, able to work from anywhere and with flexible hours. I’m a responsible, tidy, and experienced house sitter. I’m also a huge animal lover and have extensive experience in caring for dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes.
In the past, I worked as an actor and lived in Los Angeles for many years. As you can imagine, this involved a lot of downtime, and so I worked part-time at a doggy daycare/hotel - “The Pooch Hotel Hollywood”. I adored this job, in particular being able to calm nervous dogs and help them settle into a scary new environment. I got to know dogs of all different breeds, with many different health issues, and all with their own little personalities.
I also fostered several cats through a US rescue program while they waited to find their "forever homes". These cats were generally adopted quickly, but I fell in love with them all the same (and still check in on their new owners on social media just to see how they are doing to this day!).
My own dog, Dudley, passed away last year at the age of 17. In his final year, he’d become blind, deaf, required daily medication, and often needed assistance with toileting. I also have experience in caring for dogs with injuries, and earlier this year looked after a Mini Fox Terrier after cruciate ligament surgery. This involved following strict post-surgery instructions and constant supervision and of course a great deal of love!
I’m compassionate and patient, and I get great joy from knowing I’ve made an animal happy. I've had to use a housesitter myself in the past to look after my place in the US, so I know how important it is to find someone you can rely on. If you have any questions for me, or would like to arrange a call/zoom, please just let me know!
