Farm girl adulting in the city

52, Self-employed (Copywriting)

Hello, I'm Catharine Redden.

About Me:
In 2023, I made the move to full-time house-sitting.

I'm single and not looking to mingle.

As a Gen Xer, I'm resilient, capable, and resourceful.

At 52, my party days are well and truly archived in the 80s and 90s.

Since September 2023, I've embraced a nomadic lifestyle, house-sitting full-time while running my own marketing business from home.

I'm an early riser and usually hit the hay by 9 p.m.

I'm clean, tidy, respectful, and a non-smoker who doesn't drink alone (I've had maybe two drinks since March 2023, so your wine collection is safe with me).

I'm frequently requested for return house sits because I thrive in a neat, clean, and orderly homeā€”no science experiments in the fridge, sticky floors, mouldy bathrooms, or ant-filled pantries.

I've worked hard on my mental health and know my limits.

House-Sitting Experience:
I have extensive experience with various animals, including dogs, cats, chickens, cows, horses, pigs, and ducks.

I also care for pot plants, trees, and lawns.

I'm comfortable handling rescue animals, including those with severe anxiety (like the anxious dog I rescued, who was my companion for ten years), and I am skilled in administering medication.

You'll receive regular updates, photos, and videos of your pets.
I follow your instructions to the letter, ensuring your home and pets are cared for exactly as you wish.

Please note that I am unable to care for reptiles, arachnids, or rodents.

Fish and frogs are my absolute limit. (fish die a lot and I don't want to be responsible for another teenage girl's angst at losing Nemo No, 47)

Additional Information:
I'm a non-smoker, and non-vaper, and I don't use prohibited substances.

I own a car and lead a low-key, clean, healthy lifestyle.

I'm an excellent communicator and respectful of neighbours.
While I won't host parties, I might occasionally invite a friend over, but I'll always ask your permission first.

My Background:
I grew up on a farm, attended boarding school, and owned a home in Melbourne for 20 years.

I am divorced and child-free (I don't have kids), allowing me to focus on my house-sitting responsibilities.

I prefer a meet-and-greet before your departure or a FaceTime meeting if that's not possible.

Why I House Sit:
I love the nomadic lifestyle and the company of animals.

Plus, I'm seeking financial freedom after my divorce.

What I Do Between House Sits:
In between sits, I stay in Airbnb, hotels, motels, cabins in caravan parks, or crash with friends.

I also occasionally visit family in SA.

One Last Thing:
Please let me know if your garden has a 'friendly' carpet python. No joke, Queenslanders are very relaxed about the giant critters they have running about the place. 'Oh, that's Samantha, haven't seen her since summer'. #truestory

Current Availability:
Have car, will travel. If my dates are open on my calendar, I am willing to jump in my car and head to your place.

So far, I've had assignments in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, and I've enjoyed exploring different parts of Australia.

Kind regards,

Catharine Redden

PS: 'Isaac' is mentioned in some reviews. He started this adventure with me, but on 1 December 2023, he went to heaven at 20, suffering from arthritis and dementia.

I loved my big brown dog very much and miss him Every Single Day.

GLENYS (Ashgrove QLD, Sep 2024 - 1 week 1 night)
Posy is such a special cat, and I miss her antics! (and the coffee machine was the best I have experienced!)
Catharine was a wonderful house sitter, great communication and my dog (and house) were very well looked after. I would highly recommend Catharine to anyone looking for a reliable house/pet sitter and would gladly have her back to house sit for me again.

PHILIP (Scarborough QLD, Jul 2024 - 2 weeks 5 nights)
I loved looking after Pip, and your home and location were lovely. Scarborough is a charming spot.
Thank you for taking care of our home and our beloved pet dog Muscat. Muscat was full of beans on our return after being away for eight weeks. He has settled back well into his routine. Thank you also for liaising with our son when any queries arose and for responding to messages from us in addition to updates as requested. Although a self-confessed non garden expert Catharine followed up on instructions in regarding plant care /maintenance,. I would recommend Catharine to care for your place ... MORE

DIANA (Tarragindi QLD, May 2024 - 1 week)
Prior to the house sit, Catharine was prompt in all communication, and in visits to our house to review details of our requirements. While we were away, we had regular (but not excessive) updates regarding our pet, which was our main motivation to have a house sitter. We are confident he was well looked after. We arrived home to find our house clean and tidy. We are happy to recommend her services.

GREG (Stafford Heights QLD, Apr 2024 - 3 weeks)
Catharine was a lovely sitter for our home and pooch. Her communication was great! She kept us up to date with how things were at home, which made for a relaxing trip away knowing our boy was safe and happy.

LWARNA (Grange QLD, Mar 2024 - 2 weeks 2 nights)
I miss his face Lwarna, and the way he sidled up to me on the couch. I am sure he is very happy to have his humans home!
Catharine took care of my anxious doggo in a very gentle way letting me know how it was going along the way. Appreciated the info coming my way.

LAURA (Mount Nebo QLD, Mar 2024 - 3 nights)
Hi Laura, thank you for your kind review. Lilly was great company, and your house is in a gorgeous location.
Catharine stayed for a week while we were away in Melbourne. She is a great communicator and we were really happy having her stay to take care of our home and pets. She was very organised and came over for a meet and greet ahead of our trip. We also got lots of updates through the week in the whatsapp group which is a fantastic idea we'll use for future sits. Thanks Catharine!

ALASTAIR (Chapel Hill QLD, Mar 2024 - 6 nights)

Catharine is a very caring person who bonded with my dog instantly. I received daily videos of my pup. Her communication was fabulous.

DONNA (Manly West QLD, Feb 2024 - 2 weeks 5 nights)
Thank you for your kind words, Donna. Fozzie was lovely to look after.
Katharine looked after our little dog, Toby, and our house for 3 nights. She did an excellent job and we would be happy for Katharine to return at any time. Her communication was excellent, she was very easy to talk to and happy to accommodate our wishes. She demonstrated a caring attitude and genuine concern for the animals she looks after - both Toby (even after a minor drama which was no fault of hers) and the elderly dog she was caring for on another sit. Thanks Katharine.

ROSEMARY (The Gap QLD, Feb 2024 - 3 nights)
I am so sorry for calling you Margaret in my review! In my defence it's mu favourite Aunt's name .... I loved looking after Toby and would be back in a heartbeat to look after him and your home! Great dog, great home, great people! (and not too many lizards)
Catharine took good care of aging greyhound for four days. Happy dog and tidy house on our return.

MARGARET (Ashgrove QLD, Feb 2024 - 4 nights)
Thanks Margaret, I hope Mikey is coping with the extended summer ok, he's a beautiful old boy.
Catharine is a gem. She was helpful, communicated brilliantly and obviously had a rapport with my two cats. The house was in excellent condition on my return. I highly recommend her.

SAKSHI (Victoria Point QLD, Feb 2024 - 2 weeks 4 nights)
Thank you so much for your kind words, Sakshi. I miss the affection of your cats and your lovely garden!
Many thanks to Catharine for ensuring we had a worry free vacation! We had plenty of updates and nothing was too much trouble. We returned to very happy fur babies and were confident that Catharine would be able to cope in a semi rural setting, regardless of weather conditions and power cuts! Mail was collected and the garden had daily walk rounds to check up on things. All the best with your future house sits Catharine and hope to see you in the future. Ram and Michelle.

MICHELLE (Jimboomba QLD, Jan 2024 - 2 weeks 5 nights)
Thanks Michelle & Ram I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Willow & Paddy. Your home & location are lovely. Thank you for having me. C
Catharine went beyond what I asked for and looked after the house and animals as if they were her own. Everything was in good order when we came home and she messaged us to give us updates while we were away. She even cooked us dinner for our return. Thank you Catharine and we welcome you back anytime and also would recommend her for future housesitting.

MEAGHAN (Bobin NSW, Nov 2023 - 6 nights)
Thank you for your kind words Meaghan, I really enjoyed looking after Ruby, the chooks and your place. Merry Christmas, C
Unfortunately this house sit did not go well. The sitter did not follow feeding instructions for our pet, who is now ill. The house was left very dirty. The garden wasn't cared for at all. Sadly there is nothing to recommend.

SARAH (Tooraweenah NSW, Oct 2023 - 1 month 2 weeks)
I apologise to Sarah & Geoff Perception is reality & I am sorry for their distress My perspective The garden is over an acre The lawnmower broke down on first go The old cottage differed from expectations, making cleaning a cluttered & unclean space a constant battle During my ... MORE
Catharine was THE best. Her and Isaac made the most wonderful house guests for our animals and house. Everything was just perfect and so easy. Definitely have them back to stay whenever they want! ;)

LEANNE (Goulburn NSW, Sep 2023 - 1 week 4 nights)
Thank you for your kind words, Leanne; looking after Rufus, Cheddar, the chooks and the rooster was an absolute joy. We'd come back in a heartbeat. x C
