43, Academic and teacher
Hello!
My name is Beth. I live in Melbourne. I am forty three years old, and I work as an academic and university tutor, and a high school teacher
when I can.
I've been house sitting since 2020 and have loved each house sit so far. I travel a lot for work but I dread staying in hotels, I find them exhausting, and when I can I much prefer to stay in a house with pets for company. I was very lucky to adopt an elderly Golden Retriever, Juno, but unfortunately she passed away early 2023 and so having the company of other dogs (and cats too) is another reason I am looking for housesitting this year.
I have a lot of experience with a range of animals, I am a life-long animal lover. I grew up on a farm surrounded by animals and have continued to always have animals in my life since. Our farm had Murray Grey cattle, as well as chickens, and always a couple of dogs- Kelpies, a Corgi, a Beagle, a Boxer X and a German Shepherd. I have had several cats in my life and I am not a cat or dog person as I love both equally. I love gardening too, and anything that means I can be outside.
For me, house sitting is a way to have new experiences while spending time with animals. I like that house sitting provides the opportunity to be immersed in a new neighbourhood and in a new place rather than a regular tourist visit. I also like that it means any holidays or time away can mean I can still live simply and quietly, which is my preferred way to take a break.
I am also very mindful that housesitting helps pet-owners to enjoy their holiday without worrying about their pets- something that I have experienced first hand and that I know can be quite stressful.
