Over the last 9 months we have been taking a break from work and doing some backpacking. During our two months in the UK we used housesitting as a way to see different parts of England and Scotland, we not only have had beautiful moments with dogs (6) and cats (3) but have developed friendships with pet parents too, so the whole experience has been lovely.
Returning to Australia, we moved to the Mid-north Coast, and have used housesitting as a way to get a feel for the communities in this area.
Additional to this, we help my parents take care of their two adorable pets, a cavoodle and a spoodle, while they travel overseas for a month every year. Their spacious 2-acre property becomes our temporary domain, where we not only look after the dogs but also tend to the garden, ensuring everything remains in pristine condition during their absence.
I (Minet) work in the Coffs region parttime, which grants me the flexibility to be present for the responsibilities of looking after the pets we sit, ensuring that the pets under our care receive ample attention and companionship.
We are aware there is a combination of care involved for a housesit or a pet-sit; maintaining the homes, clear communication, a commitment to understanding the owner’s preferences and following any specific instructions, we hope this reinforces the trust they place in us.
In essence, our roles as house and pet-sitters not only brings us joy but also offers invaluable support to house/pet owners who can confidently enjoy their travels, knowing their furry family members and homes are in capable hands.
