Rani & Michael

Hi!

We’re Rani and Michael, both retired from the financial world, who love to travel. While officially based in California, we have been traveling and Housesitting for the last 4 years about 50% of the time. However, we are planning a permanent move to Australia in May 2025. I’m an Australian citizen and Michael has his permanent residency visa. Rani’s extended family live in the Sydney area.

One of the hardest things about traveling is how much we miss pet company! That’s why we love to house sit!

Michael and I have extensive experience taking care of cats, having owned 8 over the last 37 years. As they all lived to 15-18, we also have lots of experience dealing with things that might go wrong. The last two required daily pills and fluid injections. Our current kitten, Smokey (well, he’s now 5!) requires daily teeth brushing.

They have all been rescues - sometimes on the older side - and Smokey is a former feral we fostered the day after he was trapped at 5 months. We are definitely foster fails. We’ve encountered all personalities, from our Bubba, who thought he was a guard dog, to Louie, who was terrified of his own shadow.

In addition, Rani grew up in a houseful of animals. We never had less than 20 at one time and at various times included horses, a goat (she had free run of the house!), dogs, cats, guinea pigs, ducks, chickens and rats.

In addition to our housesits, all the Airbnb hosts we've encountered have given us great reviews for the care we've given to their homes. My husband Michael and I are obsessive about making sure a home is in great condition during and after our stay. We treat every home we sit as if it were our own. In addition, we’re happy to take care of any plants you have.
