South Coast - Wollongong & Illawarra
Gabriela
Hello!
I am a teacher living in North Wollongong NSW and I will be travelling for 3 weeks in December and need a house sitter for my dog Samba. He is a 13 months old Pomeranian-Spitz with lots of energy and love to give. He is toilet and crate trained, sleeps in his crate throughout the night and wakes up whenever you wake up. At 9pm he is already sound asleep. He requires to be taken out for toilet breaks 4 times a day: as soon as one wakes up for a 15-30 minutes walk, at lunch time for a toilet break, at 4-5pm for another 15-30 minutes walk and another quick toilet break before bed, around 8-9pm. Good thing about the walks is that we live 3 minutes from the most beautiful part of North Wollongong beach, and you will bask in the sun, watch the waves and admire the escarpment during this time. I always do a circuit that goes to the blue mile until the Lagoon restaurant & the views are amazing (see pics).
About caring for Samba: I make his food and will leave everything prepared and separated into meal bags in the freezer, you just have to add hot water and mix twice a day (breakkie after the morning walk and dinner after the arvo walk). Samba and I have been going to group trainings and he knows not to pull the lead, to stop at the curb and to sit, leave, pee and poo when told so. The only problem with him is that as a Pom he can be barky with noises in the building, but he is trained to stop with certain commands that I can teach you. He can be pushy so if you don't want any barks you will have to insist on telling him to stop and reward when he obeys (we work with positive reinforcement and there are loads of treats available). Samba needs his routine to keep calm and happy, so it's important to stick to walks, commands and food times. He is cuddly, funny, smart and full of personality and will follow you around, kiss and play with you. He doesn't require any medication or special needs, just one quick coat and teeth brushing per week (which he tolerates). His fur is deliciously smooth yet he doesn't shed.
About the place: it's a two bedroom apartment on the third floor of a building without a lift, so there is up and down the stairs. You can stay in my double bed or in the spare bedroom with an empty wardrobe and a study desk at your disposal. There is a bathroom with shower and bath, a kitchen with everything you need (including airfryer, microwave, coffee grinder, ninja blender and more), healthy non perishable food to eat and a nice and comfortable living room with a projector for movie nights. And of course a balcony with hammock, sun-bathing chair and ocean glimpses. In fact, you can see the ocean and/or the escarpment from all windows of the apartment. I am a vegetarian, but if you eat meat I don't mind, and I have separate meat pans to cook for my carnivore dog that you can use. Laundry room is private and downstairs. All the windows have screens so you can leave the windows open and enjoy the fresh air without insects coming in. Perks of being on the third floor: lots of wind and sun, you don't even need a fan in hot days! It's fairly quiet at night and if the ocean is active you can even hear the waves and smell the sea from the living room at night. In a 3 min walk you are at the beach, can grab a coffee to go at the kiosk and enjoy the beautiful views. There is a rock pool nearby and a free swimming pool within 5 minutes walk. The free shuttle bus that goes to the city centre, Fairy Meadow and UOW is in the corner of the building (2 min walk), with easy transportation to different parts of Wollongong and supermarkets. You can also walk to the city centre, it takes around 15 minutes. If you just want to enjoy Wollongong and the area, you don't need a car at all, as the North Wollongong station is within 15 minutes walk and takes you to most of the Illawarra and Sydney for cheap. And you can walk or take the free shuttle for Wollongong exploration.
About my house vibe: I am fairly spiritual and easy going, enjoy reading and adventures and have lots of plants that I love. The plants only need watering once a week, so easy to do. I have a yoga mat and yoga guide that you can use, special warm lights to make a cosy atmosphere at night, lots of essential oils and vaporiser to make the house smells nice. I clean the apartment once a week and will leave it clean for you, and I expect it to be clean upon my return. My bedding is super comfortable and of good quality and the apartment is my sanctuary, you can probably feel the good vibes from the pics. I would love to find someone like minded, that loves dogs and will treat my place with the same love I have for it.
If you are interested in a boho-hippie urban place near the beach and with easy access to everything you need, please send a message telling me all about you and your experience housesitting.
Thanks for reading this far, and I look forward to hearing from you!
All the best
Gabriela
