We need a house sitter

South East & Central - Mid West

Mick

G'day, Explorers!

We're going on a surprise (well, it will be to my wife, on her birthday) trip and therefore need to find a reliable person(s) to sit our house & ~200 ha farmlet! The main responsibilities are ensuring water remains available for our small flock of sheep and alpacas (~40 animals), water and feed the ~30 chooks, ducks, and guinea fowl (and enjoy the eggs!), and look after the house-cats (not terribly difficult). The lawn is fully reticulated and won't need mowing in the time. The only other thing is to keep our rambling and comfortable double-brick & tile home tidy and looked-after.

We are on a quiet bitumen road with a river running (trickling, at this time of year) along one side of the property, and have a large garden with lots of visiting and nesting birds. Morning or evening walks will usually be rewarded by sightings of grazing kangaroos, the occasional echidna, or perhaps a bungarra, and the night skies will generally please the stargazer. In case a change from all this relaxation is required, we are 5 minutes from Walkaway (with a tavern, Post Office/shop, CWA, tennis courts, and a museum) and 25mins from Geraldton, which is a bustling regional centre, with theatres, restaurants, beaches, fishing, arts, and a great little museum.

All other things being equal, we would prefer someone with a rural background and some basic mechanical skills, but this is not really essential - we have neighbours and nearby family who would help if you were ever stuck...

Please email or call, to find out more!

Thanks,

Mick and Carina

We loved this house sit! Mick & his family are so welcoming and were fun to get to know, even if it was for a short time We fell in love with their cat Sparky (especially our little man) and had a great time caring for their farm animals - even cheeky ‘Turkey’, the Guinea fowl :)

NAOMI (Apr 2023 - 1 week 1 day)
Mick and Carina made us feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we stepped foot inside their home. Their home is comfortable and the country environment is so relaxed and tranquil. Sparky is full of character and kept us entertained, we became very fond of the funny little bugger. There is plenty of things to do closeby and Geraldton is only a 20 min drive away with a great swimming beach and all the shops you need. If you are looking for a place to relax in nature and peace then you will ... MORE

Thanks, Shannon and Kurt! We'll get around to writing our review too, soon...in the meantime, just let me say that I can't believe you gave that cat five stars! Anyway, go well, you two - we remain very appreciative of the peace of mind you gave us, and the care you took of our home and animals. ... MORE
Thank you so much to Mick and Carina, Anna and William for the absolute privilege of being able to care for your property and animals. It was such a pleasure for me and Tippy. Your generous hospitality on arrival made us feel immediately welcome, comfortable and very much at home. Anna gave us an excellent induction introducing us to all the animals, explaining their feeding and daily requirements and showing us around. There is always a standout 'star' at house-sits. At Riverbend it was Sparky ... MORE

JOCELYN (Jul 2022 - 1 week 3 days)
Unfortunately in these COVID times the best laid plans don't always come to fruition. On this occasion they where encumbered with unplanned Covid isolation requirements which ruined their holiday plans. They had to cancel their holidays as a result. Understandably they no longer required a house sitter. During our interactions with them they where open and honest keeping us informed. They even offered us the opportunity to stay on their property anyway, which was a wonderful genuine gesture ... MORE

ALLAN (Apr 2022 - 1 week 5 days)
Hi Mick, Carina, Will & Anna, We thoroughly enjoyed housesitting for you in July while you enjoyed your overseas trip. Sparkey (the Cat) kept us entertained, with his antics, looking for the next escape. Having fresh eggs every day, was also nice. And being able to go for daily walks around the farm was certainly a great way of keeping fit. Recommend your place, for any future sitters Cheers Marlene

No rating What a beautiful family! Mick, Carina, William and Anna were all so welcoming. We enjoyed an induction walk and then a lovely meal around the family table the evening before they left. Sparky the family cat was pretty easy going and looking after the other animals was no fuss. All over a very lovely experience.

No rating We have completed a 6 week house sit for Mick and family in this delightful location. The property is only an easy 25 min from Geraldton. This regional country town has numerous large business. Eg Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths, Spotlight to name a few as well as good doctors and dentists. We had no problem making an appointment at a dentist or a doctor. We found all the business obliging and helpful. The HMAS Sydney Memorial tour is a must. Sparky the cat and his antics keep up entertained as ... MORE

No rating Carina & Mick welcomed us with an invitation to dinner. We met their children William, Anna & Sparky the cat and were made to feel very welcome. Walking Sparky the cat every day was enjoyable and entertaining and he was easy to look after and love. The small farm provided plenty of little jobs for us to do on a daily basis with the assistance of Mick's maintenance book. We had the pleasure of witnessing 2 new lambs born during our stay and protective alpacas in action. We were able to do ... MORE
JACK (Apr 2017 - 2 weeks 2 days)
No rating On our arrival we were welcomed by some great country hospitlity. Mike was very organised with a comprehensive information book on caring for their property and animals. Their typical farm cottage is nestled in a very picturesque area with some interesting day trips. The main duties we had were keeping up the food and water to the animals which was an easy chore. We chose to live in our van although the house was available for our full use - great authentic country kitchen. Geraldton is not ... MORE
MARIANNE (Sep 2016 - 1 week 3 days)
No rating We had the privilege of house sitting for Mick and Carina for three months. Their property, Riverbend, is a beautiful, peaceful refuge that we loved during our stay. We enjoyed being surrounded by trees and birds, walks to the river and checking on the animals. The drive into the main town of Geraldton was a pleasant one but only necessary for business in town otherwise the Walkaway township had the basic necessities and competitive fuel prices! We were able to have a thorough hand over of the ... MORE
