Melbourne - Yarra-Dandenong Ranges
David
Located between Healesville and Yarra Glen, we have a modern house on 40 acres, with a pool. We’re on top of a hill with spectacular 270 degree views. Sadly, you have to drive about 4km on dirt roads to reach us, but once here it’s an absolute oasis - green, peaceful, quiet (even our insomniac friends sleep when they visit!).
There is a 2 acre home paddock, properly fenced to keep our 2 dogs in and the roos, wombats and occasional deer out! There’s also a decorative dam with loads of resident ducks. The home paddock may need to be mowed depending on the combination of rain and sun. It’s about 2 hours work on a 4WD diesel mower. August/September isn’t vigorous grass growing weather and we’ll mow before we go. The garden is very low maintenance and there is an orchard producing lots of fruit.
Now to our family. We have 2 miniature schnauzers, one 6 and the other just 5. The 6 year old came to us as a pup and is relaxed, loves people and a long walk. He also loves food and we have to watch his diet. This is ESSENTIAL as schnauzers develop fatal pancreatitis if they ingest too much fat.
Our second pup has only just joined the family as a companion for the older dog. As I write this, she has started to settle in well. She’s a loving and affectionate little girl but wary of new people. Moving here has been a big change for her but every days she relaxes more. By August 2025 she’ll feel as though she has lived here all her life.
We have 3 horses, one elderly and requiring a few additions to his diet. They do get fed every afternoon and they’ll be waiting for you! It’s as if all our animals have their own Apple watches. They just know when it’s dinner time!
We have 1 rescue steer, a beautiful Jersey boy who was hand reared. He is very low maintenance but will try and muscle in for a share of horse food. We have a system to keep him away at feeding time.
We’re obviously in the beautiful Yarra Valley. Vineyards abound and walking trails are everywhere, including out the back of the farm.
We would prefer a couple with a genuine affection for animals and real experience in their care. We would prefer a couple who will put in a lot of time on the farm with the animals for this sit. We would like to meet a couple of times well ahead of the sitting dates so the animals can meet you and we can show you the ropes.
