North Coast - Northern Rivers

Julie

I am looking for a *mature*, *experienced* and reliable person/couple to take care of my dogs & donkeys on my 15ha property. The property is mostly forest and protected through a conservation agreement, waterfalls are accessible. I have; 3 kelpie x dogs, perfectly behaved and contained in a fenced yard, and two self sufficient donkeys. I have a rustic mud brick house tucked away in the hills 25 mins north west of Lismore. Fifteen minutes to a general store, 1 hr to the tourist mecca of Byron Bay and 30 mins to laid back Nimbin for coffee and people watching. The nearest major centre is Lismore (25 mins). There is no public transport except the school bus. Accomodation is a self contained room with en-suite and use of the rest of the house. Responsibilities would include leaving the house as you found it (clean) feeding & leash free walking of dogs on the property once a day and keeping an eye on things. The house has all essential basic mod cons and NBN wireless WiFi (500GB), mobile phone coverage (Telstra network). A caravan could be safely parked on the property but not near the house. The driveway is in good condition but steep in parts, not suitable for most 2wd camper vans.
Best to have an appreciation of nature and a peaceful environment to get the most from this house sit. I leave a small environmental footprint; and would welcome others with the same ideals.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Julie's Jiggi house is a tranquil bushland retreat nestled up on the hill! We loved sitting on the porch in the morning sun with our cup of tea listening to the bird song. The animals (2 dogs, 2 donkeys and 1 cow) were a delight to care for. Jock the older of the two dogs liked some pats and to be around people. Buster, the younger one was more lively and happy to stay to himself or explore the nearby bushland, returning for meal times. The cow was self-sufficient and the donkeys came to say ... MORE

MICHELLE (Sep 2022 - 3 days)
Thanks Michelle, my slip damaged dog fence is almost repaired so Buster won't be spending any more time exploring.
Julie's house is a cosy little place on the side of a beautiful, peaceful hillside. I wasn't there long but loved looking after her three adorable dogs and three cheeky donkeys. The house and garden are low-maintenance and Julie is a very experienced traveller and house-sit host. I could not recommend her place enough for a truly private, quiet getaway. I hope to return soon!

KATE (Feb 2021 - 3 days)
Julies home was a delight and a special treat to mind. Julies handover was relaxed yet detailed followed up with written instructions. She was contactable throughout the sit and provided me with lots of backup should I need it. There aren't many house/ farmsits that are wildlife refuges bordering the rainforest, and right now the lack of rain is altering so much of the green stereotypes around green and lush climate. The dogs were engaging and charismatic company, and escorted me everywhere ... MORE

VANESSA (Oct 2019 - Two weeks)
A generous review, thanks. Are you still enjoying the coast?
A fantastic place (Jiggi) for a house sit. Here surrounded by sub tropical rain forest on a large property. A special mud brick house, 3 dogs you cant help but love a couple of donkeys to indulge. A great escape from suburbia and close to Lismore a town that has it all. Julie the owner gave us clear information and was always available for more when needed even though she was on the other side of the world. We would recommend Julie and her home to anyone you will enjoy it all Bruce and Jenny

BRUCE (Mar 2019 - 2 months 2 weeks)
Julies house and the area are just beautiful. Her dogs are well behaved and friendly, they were very good with our 15 month boy who enjoyed throwing the ball and laying cuddling them. All the animal & garden are easy to care for. As nature lovers it was the perfect house sit.

CANDICE (Dec 2018 - 1 week 2 days)
We had such a lovely peaceful time at Julie's house. The dogs & donkeys love a cuddle & the brush turkeys loved us too. I recommend this house sit for lovers of nature & animals

DEREK (Nov 2018 - 4 days)
Julie is a kind and generous host and we really enjoyed looking after her beautiful dogs, donkey's and Bush turkeys! Her home is really special and you feel so at peace straight away. Thank you Julie for making our first house sit so memorable.

MICHAELA (Sep 2018 - 2 weeks 4 days)
No rating Julie's three kelpies Jasper, Jock and Dino (junior, mature and senior) are so good natured and well behaved they were an absolute pleasure to be with. The cow and steer essentially look after themselves, and the two donkeys just say hello (and present themselves for their treat) when you collect the mail from the letter box. Julie has a charming cottage hide-away on a hill nestled at the edge of the forest that is her wildlife refuge. Julie's home is a centre of peace and tranquility, and an ... MORE
TINA (May 2018 - 4 days)
No rating I cared for Julies property and animals in late 2017 for a month. The property is tucked away in the hills but still not too far from Lismore or Nimbin, with a local store only 15 minute-drive away. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous - private, lush and a very special piece of nature that Julie has lovingly and tirelessly restored to a more pristine condition. Much of it is steep bush that is almost impenetrable. I explored the areas that have been cleared and some of the higher steeper ... MORE
CAROLYN (Oct 2017 - 4 weeks)
No rating I house, dog, donkey, cow and bush turkey sat for Julie in Jiggi for almost one month. When I met Julie I liked her instantly - she is a very interesting person, with a big passion for animals and the environment. Being at Julie's gorgeous sanctuary was so lovely and peaceful. The animals were gorgeous and will forever be in my heart. The location was perfect for seclusion, as well as exploring the local region. Both Lismore and Nimbin are within easy drive, as is Casino. There are also ... MORE

No rating Thank you so much Julie for choosing us to look after your beautiful home. So unique and private. We particularly enjoyed the company of your dogs. They were loving and very entertaining. Donkeys were quiet & low maintenance. Lovely drives around the area. Highly recommend to sitters looking for something different. Julie is a genuine, very nice person.
TONY (Feb 2017 - 1 week 2 days)
No rating We loved every minute of our stay at the peaceful "Jiggi Rescue Farm" and were sad to leave the dogs, donkeys, cow, steer when the month was up. We will miss our twice-daily walks on the property, with all the animals in tow. Julie left the place nice and clean and made sure we had all we needed, including a brand new washing machine and a good WiFi connection. She also compiled an information booklet, which anwered all our questions. Her rustic-style home is a comfortable forest retreat and ... MORE
BARBARA & COLIN (Aug 2016 - 4 weeks)
Julie was the perfect home-owner - she responded quickly when we first applied, and then quickly made her mind up from all the applicants and choose us. She communicated well with us leading up to the start. Julie trusted us fully with her 3 dogs, 2 donkeys 2 cattle at her remote property and didn't need any updates from us while she was away for 3 weeks on holiday - she knew we could handle any situation !!. Her briefing and her written instructions were excellent. Most of all, all her ... MORE
