We need a house sitter

Regional NSW - Southern Tablelands

Lucia

Come and enjoy the beautiful Southern Highlands on a small, idyllic rural property. A spacious 2 story farm house in a large 2 acre garden is surrounded by the green undulating pastures of adjoining farms, accessed by a very picturesque dirt country road.

We are about an hour and 40 minutes drive from both Canberra and Sydney CBD, at 720 mts altitude so it can be cooler than the coast or inland.

You will definitely need a car as the nearest train station is 6kms away.

You will also need to be fit enough to walk my 2 very well trained border collies every day, and give out the twice daily feeds to the 14 resident chickens who free range in the garden each afternoon. There is also a gorgeous house cat Charlotte (very easy care), who tells me she has no need of exercise, as she's flat out sleeping.

To housesit here, there is the expectation that you will be here each night, and a fair bit of time during the day. Apart from feeding animals, the dogs require an off-leash 30-40 minute walk each morning in the nearby bushland or on any of the many scenic walks in the area on reasonably level ground ( maps provided).

We are on rain (tank) water only, and the fire wood is all coming from trees felled on the farm, so we are careful with resources. If you are after extravagant hotel luxury with little to do, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you are happy with thoughtful and economical use of resources and enjoy nature you will be very comfortable.

The house and gardens are large and spacious with most mod cons; radio, TV etc., but no wifi is provided (I hotspot off my phone). Telstra coverage is fine, Optus is ok, but Vodaphone coverage is usually poor.

There are usually fresh eggs every day from the 'egg static' free-ranging chickens, and fresh fruit, herbs and veggies (what ever is in season) in the large vegetable garden to enjoy.

Detailed notes are provided, and I like to give new house sitters at least an hour's orientation to show you around and so you can feel secure in finding things. (...and I will be contactable if there's anything you can't find!).

Looking forward to hearing from you!
Lucy

Lucy is a most thoughtful and generous host. She frequently communicated with us before our stay, and picked us up from the train station. Her house and garden is a slice of paradise! and her pets are gorgeous and easy maintenance. Everything was very clearly stated for us in a guide book which Lucy had put together. If you get the chance to have dinner with Lucy before your stay, you are most fortunate! Great food and conversation. Unfortunately our stay had to finish early due to COVID, and ... MORE

ANNA FRIIS & BENJAMIN FRIIS (Jun 2024 - 1 week 4 nights)
We consider ourselves to be really lucky that Lucy gave us this opportunity and trusted us to look after her beautiful house and the pack - Max, Lizzie, Queen Charlotte and the Chooks. Lucy herself is a kind and humble soul with great conversations and knowledge to share. She is really thoughtful and wise - there is so much to learn from her. This was one of the most peaceful and beautiful experiences we have had during our travels in Australia. Lucy's farm and surrounding areas were ... MORE

LAURA & NELE (Oct 2024 - 1 week)
House and Pet sitting for Lucy was a enjoyable time, the house and gardens are lovely and well maintained and the pets that she has are even better. Lizzie and Maxi are very well behaved dogs and Charlotte is the fluffiest friendliest cat you could ask for and the chickens are easy to care for following the detailed instructions provided. Would housesit for again!

KATHARINE & PATRICK (Jun 2024 - 5 nights)
Lucia's house is located in an ideal setting, perfect for getting away from it all. Lucia's commitment to living sustainably was evident in the way she manages her home. Her detailed instructions guided and taught us more about sustainable living. The animals were a pleasure to care for, particularly the two border collies which are the most well trained dogs we have encountered. We were able to walk them off lead with no difficulty. The cats warmed to us with even the shy Lily venturing ... MORE

No rating We once again returned to Lucia's lovely farm in beautiful Exeter & were happy to see & care for our old pet friends again. All pets are very well behaved & great company to be around, & are all really easy to look after. The house & gardens are such a peaceful place to spend some relaxing time away & there are some lovely walks close by. Lucia is a very warm & welcoming home owner & provides lots of great information & notes so that everything is easy to understand & she is readily ... MORE

No rating We highly recommend house sitting for Lucia at her home in Exeter, in the Southern Highlands, with charming small towns with much history, and great walks. She has a beautiful house with two lovely collies, Scruffy and Lizzie; Lizzie especially is great fun. The two cats are very intriguing but absolutely no trouble at all. There there are the chickens producing a good supply of eggs and so do not buy eggs before arriving! Lucia is a lovely lady and a piano teacher, amongst other things ... MORE
COLIN (Jan 2018 - 6 days)
No rating It was such a pleasure to house sit for Lucia in Exeter which entailed caring for two well behaved Border Collies which loved walking in the State Forest nearby which is great for longer walking if you wish. Poppy and Lily the cats were no trouble and their personalities shone through. The home is well situated to nearby shopping centres etc. In the evening sitting on the back verandah with a wine in one hand and a good book in the other overlooking the fields was rather luxurious. We would ... MORE
JOHN & EILEEN (Nov 2017 - 4 weeks)
No rating We greatly enjoyed house sitting for Lucy. She has a wonderful property and very endearing animals! Lucy was very welcoming and informative about her place and the area. She supplied us with lots of tips and resources to help us with our stay. Our kids enjoyed feeding and patting the animals, bike-riding, bushwalking, collecting kindling for the fire, stargazing, having a horse-riding lesson nearby and going to see the puppet show in Bundanoon which is on every Sunday. It was a great place to ... MORE
NICKI (Sep 2017 - 1 week 1 day)
No rating Recently, I spent a wonderful week looking after Lucy's farm and her lovely pets. The environment was peaceful, private, yet supportive neighbours were available if necessary. Lucy was readily contactable. Shopping centres of varying sizes within easy driving distance. Lucy's pets were so easy to care for. An established routine was explained on arrival, with detailed notes (for reference). The hsitter's room is large, bright, and airy - with an incredible view over the property. The ... MORE
MARGARET (Jun 2017 - 6 days)
No rating We must say a big thank you to Lucy for welcoming us into her home. It was such a lovely relaxed sit with all the information & carefully prepared notes that we needed to ensure everything went smoothly. The house was comfortable, clean & tidy when we arrived & Vicky was easily accessible leading up to & during the stay. We found Vicky to be a very friendly & welcoming host who had obviously gone to a lot of trouble to ensure we were comfortable. Our new pet family for the duration of our stay ... MORE
